Help Support Our Justice-Seeking Work on this MLK Day
Dear Justice-Seeker,
Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we are reminded of Dr. King’s enduring vision of justice, equity, and inclusion—a vision deeply rooted in faith and the belief in the sacred worth of every person. Methodist Federation for Social Action (MFSA) embodies this vision in each step we take. Through advocacy, coalition-building, and bold action, we lean into the work of transforming both our church and our world.
Together in 2024, we:
Built support around the 3 Rs. Regionalization, the Revised Social Principles, and the Removal of the discriminatory language toward LGBTQ people in the Book of Discipline.
Wrote Plumblines to help resource delegates on the issues that are important to our movement.
Worked together with the Love Your Neighbor Coalition (LYNC) which consists of 14 caucus groups that represent and/or advocate for those that our church pushes to the margins. (MFSA also serves as the fiscal sponsor of LYNC.)
Worked in partnership with a variety of organizations and individuals across the United Methodist connection to pass the 3 Rs.
Supported justice-seeking pastors, lay people, and churches across annual conferences in Africa and the Philippines.
These milestones remind us of Dr. King’s words: "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." With each challenge, we draw strength from our shared commitment and faith, and we act with the same courage of those who came before us. But the work continues. Our journey toward a world that reflects God's love—one of inclusion, liberation, and equality—is far from over.
In 2025, we recommit ourselves to the call for justice, equity, and liberation as we honor Dr. King's legacy. We need your support to:
Organize effectively for the ratification of Worldwide Regionalization
Equip more churches to join the justice-seeking movement and expand the reach of our justice-seeking congregation program.
Support the work of implementing recommendations of the Racial Audit, and dismantle and interrupt white supremacy within MFSA and the church at all levels.
Provide vital resources, training, and community support to our regional leaders and partners.
Advocate courageously for rights, environmental justice, and the full inclusion of marginalized voices in our church and society.
Continue to resist policies that marginalize and oppress, working to amplify the voices of those most impacted.
This letter comes at a time of uncertainty and challenge, with a significant shift in our nation’s leadership. In the face of a landscape marked by heightened division and policies that threaten marginalized communities, our work in advocating for inclusion, equity, and compassion is even more essential. We are called to stand boldly, grounded in the belief that every person holds sacred worth. Your generosity fuels this work—through financial gifts, volunteerism, and prayer. Your support is essential in bending the arc of the universe closer to justice.
Please consider making a gift to MFSA today. Your financial support ensures that we can continue to build a more just and equitable future.
Dr. King taught us that the road to justice requires courage, faith, and collective action. Together, we can create change that lasts. Thank you for your faithfulness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to justice.
With deep gratitude,
Bridget Cabrera (she/her/hers)
