MFSA Commemorates the 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Today marks what would have been the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. But last June, the Supreme Court of the United States eliminated the constitutional right to abortion, decimating access and jeopardizing people’s health, lives and economic security.

Abortion rights and access are connected to so many of our other rights and fundamental freedoms. This includes our right to workplace justice, disability rights, LGBTQI+ rights, economic security, racial justice and our right to safely care for our families, including access to affordable, high-quality child care.

The Court’s decision to overturn the right to abortion is an attack on people everywhere, especially people who are lower-paid, people with disabilities, people of color, women, immigrants, and LGBTQIA+.

At the same time we mourn the loss of Roe, we acknowledge that the abortion access crisis started long before Roe was overturned – for too long, access to abortion has been dependent on where you live and how much money you make.

MFSA believes:

This Supreme Court Decision directly harms all who seek reproductive justice especially BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and low income people in our communities.

As Methodists we are called to Do No Harm and Love our Neighbors. This action directly goes against our values as Christians and the rights of American Citizens.

We as people of faith must come together to ensure that all people, particularly the most vulnerable, have free and equal access to abortion.

You make our collective work possible by your witness for justice every day in your church, community, and Annual Conference. MFSA does not receive any financial support from the United Methodist Church's giving channels. 100% of our budget is funded through your membership donations and your generosity in giving.
