Giving Tuesday Now - May 5, 2020

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement that brings individuals and organizations together in unity.  In light of COVID-19, Giving Tuesday Now is taking place on May 5, 2020.  MFSA is partnering up with several important organizations that continue to remain committed to seeking justice in the midst of a pandemic.  Learn more about Grace Cafe, West Side Campaign Against Hunger, NOAH Project, the Iowa Sanctuary Movement (partner of Iowa MFSA), Methodist Federation fo Social Action, and make a gift to the Giving Tues Now-MFSA Fund. Your gift will be split up evenly between these organizations doing important work of both direct service and advocacy.

We recognize and uplift the staff and volunteers, the justice-seekers in the following organizations, who are on the grounds and act on the frontlines.  At the same time, we cannot choose to forget the intersectional and systemic nature of injustice. We wouldn't be able to do the work we do without your partnership. Click here to give to the Giving Tues Now-MFSA Fund.

Grace Cafe:
A program of The Center - Philadelphia at Arch Street UMC, a Justice Seeking Community, Grace Cafe is a restaurant style community meal that opens its doors for the congregation's neighbors, especially center city's most vulnerable citizens who are currently experiencing homelessness.  Dedicated volunteers provide, prepare, and serve a hot meal for 200-225 guests.  In the time of shelter in place, Grace Cafe continues to safely provide hundreds of nutritious meals in to go containers.  Learn more about Grace Cafe on their webpage and FaceBook Page.

Iowa Sanctuary Movement, Partner of Iowa MFSA:
The Iowa Chapter of MFSA is part of the Iowa Sanctuary Movement, a coalition of Iowa faith communities working for immigrant justice helping individuals in their search for freedom and safety. For nearly two years, the Iowa Sanctuary Movement has worked to raise and disburse funds to support asylum seekers in Central Iowa assisting with medical expenses, utilities, and food. Data from the federal government shows that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests are up 67% in 2017 in the region that includes Iowa and both small and large scale worksite raids are devastating families and communities across our state, and in the midst of a pandemic, there is a greater fear and uncertainty among our immigrant neighbors. Learn more about the Iowa Sanctuary Movement on their webpage and FaceBook Page.

Methodist Federation for Social Action:
Methodist Federation for Social Action (MFSA) is a national progressive social justice nonprofit organization that mobilizes clergy and laity within The United Methodist Church to take action on issues of peace, poverty and people’s rights within the church, the nation and the world.  During this pandemic, we continue to see the urgency of our work to make broad systemic change that honors the dignity and worth of all people, that puts people over money, and honors the earth and all her inhabitants.  Learn more about the Methodist Federation for Social Action on our websiteFaceBookInstagram, and Twitter.

NOAH Project:
The NOAH (Networking, Organizing, and Advocating for the Homeless) Project, housed in Detroit's Central United Methodist Church, a Justice Seeking Community, has the mission to empower low income and homeless Detroiters to achieve stability by serving as the first step on the journey to self sufficiency.  Despite the spread of COVID-19, NOAH has taken efforts to continue to provide bag lunches and essential hygiene items to clients.  Learn more about the NOAH Project on their webpage and FaceBook Page.

West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH):
The West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) at St. Paul and St. Andrew United Methodist Church, a Justice Seeking Community, changes our perception of hungry people by working in partnership with them, providing food with dignity, and empowering customers to find solutions.  Set up like a supermarket, the pantry allows customers to select their own food.  In light of COVID-19, West Side Campaign Against Hunger has been categorized as an “Essential Service” and must serve as a frontline responder.  Learn more about West Side Campaign Against Hunger on their webpage and FaceBook Page.
